![]() ![]() Also, I'll read Elizabeth Wein's other both about Julie, Codename Verity, as I enjoyed the Pearl Thief. I wanted to keep reading to find out who the murderer was and who stole the pearls. The story is interesting as the book is set in the 1930's in Scotland, which I did not know much about before reading. One of the best parts of the book is the characters, Mary the librarian, Euan and Ellen the twins and the main heroine, Julie. I enjoyed reading this book - a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. I would give this book 2.5 stars out of 5. There are some predictable parts in the book. ![]() ![]() She is also very accurately described and an intriguing character. She has an own atmosphere and has a strong impression that can set the mood. ![]() I really liked the first appearance of Ellen McEwen. For example, Julia slowly becomes more mature and grown up as the story goes on. I also like how some characters are developed throughout the book. It's a story that is completely unique and the writer does a very good job of describing the scenery. ![]()

His earliest attempt takes the form of what he calls a “fundamental ontology.” Heidegger claims that the only access to the meaning of being in general must be through an investigation of “the meaning of the being for whom being is an issue”, that is, “the being each of us is”-the human being. ![]() Heidegger devoted his entire intellectual life to attempting to answer it. ![]() What is the meaning of being? A recollection of late childhood and carnage, Diop’s prose is less of the fever dream sometimes associated with similarly grotesque subjects and more an organic, direct recount of destruction years at a remove à la Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence. Though David Diop anchors At Night All Blood Is Black in the plight of Senegal, the historical context of the novel is hushed by an examination of the psychological duality of conflict. ![]() IN THE BLOOD-MIRED trenches of World War I, an unwilling soldier ascends to an agent of death. ![]() ![]() I could feel my heart beating so fast, the adrenaline pumping through my body and the feeling was as scary as it was exhilarating! Though the granular details may be particular to Jiyoung (born in Seoul, the second daughter in a middle-class family), the milestone events are universal: Gender stereotyping starting from birth in ways both subtle and overt sexualization victim-blaming thwarted ambitions and pressure to stay at home and raise children while fading into ladylike irrelevance.
